so, today as i was driving to lunch, the rental car i've had for the past month suddenly made this horrendously loud noise and the power steering suddenly didn't work anymore. luckily i was in a parking lot, going rather slowly, so i forced the car to turn into a parking spot. this couple motions to me and says "there's something hanging out from under your car!" so i get out and look, and there's this belt thing dragging. the guy looks under the hood, mumbles something in spanish, or at least english with a heavy accent that i still couldn't understand, and they walk away. so i call the rental car place. the lady tells me to call the roadside assistance. so i do, and i tell them what happened. they call the chevy place and a towing company to come get me. so i wait for the tow truck. he comes and picks up the car and gives me a ride to the chevy dealer, where the car will be fixed. then i have to wait at the dealership for the rental car people to come pick me up and take me back to their office to get a new rental. i finally leave with my half eaten lunch and a mitsubishi lancer. so, yes, it all worked out ok, but it was rather frustrating and made me take a two and a half hour lunch... but i do have kind of an upgrade as far as the car is concerned. at least i like driving it a lot better.
so, when i finally got back to work, i looked up the number for the body shop where my car is, and they said they will start painting tomorrow and i should have it back by the end of the week. finally some good news!! so, like i said, it can always get worse before it gets better. but i think i will buy a new car anyway. i was told to look at a hyundai tucson, which on the internet, looks fairly reasonable and fun. so i think i may try to test drive one tomorrow. it may be a tie between that and the jetta... anyway, hopefully the car troubles will be over soon enough, and some other facet of life can weigh in.
let me know what you think....

Ooh, that Hundai Tucson looks beautiful! But I voted on the side for the Corolla- we used to have one and loved it. I'm glad you are far away from the fires, but I hope they don't get any closer! That would be so creepy to see the sun red!
