Long Overdue Update

It's been a super long time since I've written a blog post. I'll try to catch up a bit. The last post was in February of 2014. I am still in school... surprise!

In May of 2014, I went on a SVOSH mission trip to Fiji. It was awesome! I'll try to make another post with pictures from that, cause there are a lot of pictures.

I spent the summer of 2014 in New Mexico with my parents, and then came back to California in the Fall for 2nd year of optometry school. School got much more intense, and required a lot of study time to get through all of the exams and proficiencies, but I made it through 2nd year. 3rd year started in May 2015, and I started seeing actual real patients in the clinic. I was so nervous for that! But here I am, in the beginning of winter quarter 3rd year, with just about 6 months left before I go out on rotations. So crazy! In March, I will be taking Part 1 of the national boards exam. It's hard to believe I've come this far, and yet still have so much to go. I feel like I am sooo ready to be done with school, but at the same time, I am sooo not ready to be a doctor. It will happen eventually though.

Speaking of rotations, I will be going to:

  • IHS hospital in Crownpoint, NM (Summer 2016)
  • VA hospital in  Salt Lake City, UT (Fall 2016)
  • Private practice in Cedar City, UT (Winter 2016/2017)
  • And back to Ketchum Health (my school's clinic) in Anaheim, CA (Spring 2017)

Assuming all goes well between now and then, I will be graduating in May of 2017! So, if you would like to take a trip to CA and go to Disneyland with me then, you can start planning now.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I will be flying out to Minnesota to visit my sister and see my adorable niece get baptized. I have never been to Minnesota before. It should be pretty interesting. And I am excited to see everyone!

C'est tout en ce moment. Je vous aime!

Life in the OC

Don't call it that.*

So I know I've been slacking. School keeps me busy. But someone sent me this article and I found it interesting. The top ten places to live in California. Most of them are in Orange County. And although Fullerton is not on the list, I happen to live across the street from #2. Placentia seems pretty decent. :)

Best Places In California

I need to start taking some more pictures of what is going on around here. To be honest, it's really all about school. And then I try to spend some time at Disneyland once in awhile. I would like to make it to the beach more often too. So that is my goal for now... Next week is finals week for winter quarter, and then I'll be visiting Utah for a few days. And then after Spring quarter finishes in May, I'll be going to Fiji for a week! I'm so excited for that. I'll get to help people get free eye exams and treatment while being in a beautiful place.

I guess I better get back to studying...

october!

i love october!

even though i am technically in the first and "easiest" quarter of optometry school, i still think this is relevant. i'm sure it will get worse though. :)

i am nearing the end of the quarter. one more midterm left. then finals are the first week of november. i'm already counting down until thanksgiving. i haven't been home since easter, and i need to see the desert sky. even if it will be cold. :)

also, the past few weeks have been semi-eventful. my best friend from salt lake came down to visit me for my birthday! yay for 33! we went to huntington beach.

last weekend was also my white coat ceremony for school! the white coat basically says i'm officially a student doctor now, a real live healthcare professional. :) my wonderful parents drove out here to attend.

eyeventures!

once again, it has been a long time since i last posted. the big news is that i started optometry school about a month ago!!! so i made the move back to sunny southern california to learn how to be an eye doctor. it's been great fun so far! and a little stressful. but i am really enjoying the classes, the new friends i've made and the whole atmosphere. it is an adjustment living in california again. everything is expensive, and there are a billion people everywhere. but i'm only a 15 minute drive away from disneyland, so i'm thinking about purchasing an annual pass. i haven't quite decided on that yet though. anyway, i'm revivng the blog, hopefully. so here's to many more updates in the future!

wow

i didn't realize it had really been that long since i wrote a blog post. i guess i've been a little busy. i should be studying for a final exam, but i'm not. i'm here instead.

the last several months have been a little crazy, working practically full-time and going to school full-time. a few months ago, i applied to optometry school, and i'm still in the process of going to interviews. i know, i know, i should have sent my application in earlier. it wouldn't be me if i didn't wait til the last minute though. hopefully by the end of may i will know where i will be in the fall. thank goodness.

if i get accepted, then in four years you can call me DOCTOR. that's right. dr. jones. :)

anyway, i really should get back to my studying. but i recently discovered this awesome duo of singing sisters. they bring a smile to my heart. so i will end with a song. i hope you enjoy!
