idaho thoughts

well, i'm sitting in my hotel room, in ontario oregon, trying to fall asleep. i'm very tired, but for some reason i can't sleep. i guess i'll try to get everything off of my mind i possibly can in a blog. first of all, i had a really interesting experience tonight. i went to dinner with the guys i'm traveling with at a place called brewskie's broiler. as the name suggests, both of the guys ordered beer. so of course the conversation turned to me not drinking alcohol. the one man has absolutely no qualms about asking frank questions, and when he asked if not drinking was a religious thing, i said yes. i had told him that i was mormon before, but he had forgotton. all he remembered was that i don't drink. anyway, so he had heard some things about the church and proceded to ask question after question. i ended up telling the story about the book of mormon. the other guy had grown up in idaho, and i'm guessing he may have heard it before, but he didn't say anything or ask any questions. it was a little awkward, but hey, it always is gonna be awkward, isn't it? so we talk about the book of mormon for awhile. i told him i could get a copy of it for him if he wanted to read it, but he said only if it was more exciting than harry potter cause he was having a rough time getting through that one. :) anyway, so the conversation turned to talking about families, and one of the guys 25th aniversary is coming up, and then they were talking about grandkids and the like. then out of nowhere, the frank one asks me "what is your ideal" and i was like my ideal what? apparently he meant my ideal man and future family. talk about awkward! i mean, this is something you talk about with your girlfriends, maybe your parents, but with your 50 year old male coworkers? weirdness! so i tried to explain a little bit, but they just don't get what i'm looking for. maybe i don't get what i'm looking for. thankfully, the conversation turned to other things. but it was rather interesting dinner talk. anyway, so i guess i had my own little missionary moment tonight.

my other epiphany today was that i never want to live in idaho. no offense to idahoans but it's not me. so, if i'm ever presented with the opportunity to move here, i'm pretty sure i'm gonna have to say no...
